Farewell Wade Peddy

Cranks:

Please join me in saying good bye to one of our fellow cranks, Mr. Wade Peddy.

Wade will be moving to Waxahachie, Tx, on his 30 acre "ranchette" once his house sells in Coppell. He has figured out how to live the good life, in the country.

Thanks for riding with us for as long as you did, Mr. Wade. Your unique sense of humor will be missed.

For the record, I asked Wade to send me a photo of him on his bike, but he didn't respond. This is what you get, Wade. Thanks Facebook.

Welcome Helen as our newest Coppell Crank

Cranks:

Please welcome our newest member of the Coppell Cranks, Ms. Helen. Helen works for a major hearing aid company (sorry Helen, I forgot the name of the company). She travels a lot but when she is not working or tending to the two kids, she loves to cycle. Her husband's hobby is playing bass guitar for a band. How cool is that.

Helen is the one with the orange top.

Thanks for joining the Cranks Ms. Helen. We look forward to many miles with you.

HHH 2018 Results Are In

Cranks:

If you are reading this blog post in an e-mail, the images probably won't come in the e-mail, so you may have to actually visit the blog (heaven forbid) to see the results.

This year, only two Coppell Cranks braved the road to Wichita Falls to ride the Hotter N Hell 2018, Walt Berend and Kit Vinson.

Walt did a bang up job that put him right above Tom Hudon in 2010 and right below Wade Peddy in 2013.

Mr. Walt, congratulations on a GREAT ride. You turned in a VERY respectable time.

Kit Vinson also rode the 100 miles in Wichita Falls. With only 2 summer rides under his belt, Kit signed up for the 75 mile ride, but at Hell's Gate he turned Left instead of Right, and the result of that decision will live in the Coppell Cranks history books forever.

Mr. Kit, thank you for taking a bullet for the team and putting yourself dead last on the scoreboard. Now, due to your sacrifice, no Crank will ever have to see their name at the list.

The Swollen Sphincter Award goes to Kit for spending 10 hours in the saddle.

Troy Naef doesn't ride with the Cranks anymore, but for those of you who remember him, he has evolved into quite the cyclist. At 5:30:07, Troy had finished the race before Kit had hit the 65 mile mark.

For those of you who may have had friends who attended the ride, here are all of the Coppell results.

The HHH 2018 is quickly approaching - September 25th.

I just completed my online registration. It was easy and only cost about $40. I am doing the 75 mile ride.

If you are doing the ride, remember to let me know your time and distance so I can update the scoreboard.

Is Anybody Ready for HHH?

Hey Cranks:

This is Kit Vinson. I manage this blog. I told several people that I would be ready for HHH this summer, and I fully intend to live up to part of that promise this year. I will probably do the 100K instead of the 100 mile ride. I have been jogging every day but while in Mexico (6 week trip) I haven't had the opportunity to ride.

I have done lots of other cool things. Check out the other blog that I manage. It's called Treats from Mexico

http://treatsfrommexico.blogspot.com/

Anyway, I am going to start stepping up my training by trying harder to find biking opportunities here in Mexico and I hope that some of you will join me at HHH this summer.

Newest Crank Tears It Up in Muenster

Our newest member, Phillip Siebenmann, recently did his first big ride in Muenster on April 29th. Phillip JUST started cycling and is still in the process of gathering all of the necessary gear. He wasn't sure he could make it all the way, or if he could do the hills that the race is famous for, or if his bike would hold up for the entire race.

When asked about the race, this is what he said:

"Munster was great.  Towards the end I wasn't sure I was going to even be able to drive home.   I got clips which helped...but still either getting outbiked or don't use my gears right.  The hills weren't overwhelming and downhills were a blast..   I would do it again.  I can't fathom a 100 mile in the heat, though...Yall are crazy!"

We haven't seen Phillip since the race due to a sprained ankle, but Phillip promises to be back in the saddle with the cranks again soon.

When you see him on the cycle again, please remember to congratulate him on his first big ride.

11th Annual Coppell Ride of Silence

The 11th annual Coppell Ride of Silence will be held Wednesday evening, May 16th, at 7:00 p.m.

The Ride of Silence occurs on the third Wednesday in May in cities all over the world to commemorate cyclists killed or injured while riding legally on public roads. It’s ridden in complete silence and at a slow pace, around 12 mph. There are no sponsors, no registration and no fees. Helmets are mandatory and all levels of cyclists are welcome. Just show up and be a part of it.

The Dallas Ride of Silence that began it all in 2003 will be held that same evening at White Rock Lake. With the death of Greg Dean on July 22, 2007 we wanted to hold a Ride of Silence in Coppell.  Our first was in 2008.  We have had additional injuries and accidents locally, including the death of Wade Livingston in 2016.  As any cyclist knows, the roads are increasingly dangerous and the need for awareness on the part of cyclists and drivers continues to increase.  This ride is for all those who have been injured.

The ride will start and finish at Coppell High School, 185 W Parkway, Coppell, TX 75019 (one block west of the Denton Tap and Parkway intersection). We ask that riders be lined up and ready to go by 6:45 p.m. After a short announcement and messages, the ride will begin at 7:00 p.m. It’s an 11 mile course and we should be finished by 8:00 p.m.

The Coppell Ride of Silence will take part on city streets with no police escort so we will need to obey all traffic signals and stop signs. We’ll split into smaller groups of around 20 riders so we don’t impede the normal flow of traffic. Ride Marshals will be in each group to lead the way and a support van from Bicycles Plus will follow the last rider.
